TL;DR: Still working.
You’d never think that working so hard would be so un-newsworthy, but here I am, haha.
There’s been a lot that has happened in the last few weeks, but most of that has been me finishing stuff that should have been done during December (*guilty face*) and working hard on Book 3. I’m most of the way through my first run-through, and it’s been interesting how things that I’ve tightened up during the polishing of the previous books have made even these advanced drafts feel a little sloppy.
Thankfully, though, I have 70 days (!) to polish Book 3 up to a point where I want people to read it. I don’t know if I’ve shared this before, but I’m a chronic under-writer (as in, I write the bare minimum on the first drafts). Since the first draft, every book has doubled in size, which is satisfying from a word-count view, but I just KNOW that it’s going to make some editor out there start twitching at the thought. (Worry not, editors, I tend to do a SUBSTANTIAL amount of editing myself before I send it to any publishers.)
One negative thing that did happen was that Rescue was not chosen as a finalist this year for the Whitney Awards. Not being chosen will always be disappointing, but it is a normal part of life. We move on, and keep trucking!
In life news, I continue to the CDC’s primary lab (this is a joke, so far I have not caught anything noteworthy, but I have continued to catch anything and everything that has crossed my path. I expect superhero-levels of immunity after all of this.) But morale is high! As I’ve learned what works best to get me well again as soon as possible, it’s become less of the Event that it used to be, and more of the annoyance that everyone else agrees it is.
Other than that… I don’t think there’s much. Life is good! Work is happening! We got this
Hope you all are well!
Onward and upward!
